If you're constantly checking your Gmail account for new messages, you need a program like Gmail Notifier.
With Gmail Notifier you'll save the time of having to launch the browser, go to the Gmail website, log in with your credentials and finally waiting for your inbox to load. This small app sits silently on the System Tray and alerts you with a blinking icon (and an optional sound) every time you have new messages to read.
Gmail Notifier can work with multiple email accounts, which makes it even more useful. The only thing you need is to make sure they all have the IMAP option enabled in your Gmail account settings. Clicking any message will open it inside Gmail Notifier, allowing you to read the content – though it's not very comfortable, because you can't resize the program's window. You can also mark messages as read and delete them, syncing those changes with the Gmail website in real time.
I did find two negative characteristics in Gmail Notifier: one is that the program only shows unread messages, so once you open them inside the program – or from the website – they eventually disappear from the interface. The other annoying feature in Gmail Notifier is that you can't set the time interval to check for new messages.
Despite some minor flaws, Gmail Notifier is still a handy app to check your Gmail accounts in a much faster, more comfortable way.
